Younger Kids and their teachers explore a different author each month. In January, they enjoyed books by David Shannon.

David Shannon is a Caldecott award-winning picture book author and illustrator. Even as a young boy, Shannon knew he wanted to be an artist. He liked drawing illustrations to accompany the stories he read. The inspiration for one of his most popular books, No, David!, actually came from a book he wrote at the age of five after his many mischievous activities one day elicited this repeated response from his mother. Shannon has said that he often likes to use incidents and people from his own life and has been inspired by his daughter and the family dog. Shannon’s books are known for their bright colors and bold, engaging illustrations. His artwork has also appeared in a wide variety of publications, including The New York TimesTime, and Rolling Stone.
