Summer Enrichment Camps

Summer logo 2015 color web-8bpWelcome to Summer Enrichment Camps at Rivendell! Our experienced staff has offered innovative, challenging and fun summer classes for 38 years. With a wide variety of topics and activities, there’s an opportunity for every child to explore new subjects, learn new skills and discover new interests in a positive and  engaging learning environment.

Choose from our licensed preschool for 3- & 4-year-olds and fun-filled summer classes for school-aged students. Please look over our offerings and tell your friends about our summer sessions, too. Children do not need to be Rivendell students to attend our summer programs.

Lego Robotics Institute (weekly, 5/26 through 8/14)

Times: Camps run 8:00am (doors open; instruction typically starts between 8:30-9:00am) to 3:00pm daily, with after-care (billed separately) available until 6:00pm. Students will need to bring lunch.

Payment: Camp costs are listed below. A $25 non-refundable deposit is due at registration. You’ll receive a confirmation email from Rivendell that will be the official acceptance to the camp. If a session is already full, your deposit may be applied to another camp or refunded. The balance for each camp is due by the first day of the camp. *Camps noted as full may have single-week signups or particular days still available, or you can be placed on a wait list; please contact us.

appleWe have a wide variety of summer activities planned. If your child has an interest in stories, art, games, creative movement, and exploration then Rivendell is the place. Our daily routine consists of theme related exploration and activities, free play, “circle time”, snack, outside play, lunch and nap.

Preschool camps are offered in two-week sessions with a different theme each week. Preschoolers who wish to enroll full-time (Monday-Friday) may register online here. Three-day registration is also available but must be coordinated through the Rivendell office. Preschool students are ages 3 through 4.5 yrs. All classes are limited to 20 students per day, with at least one licensed teacher and a qualified full-time assistant. Rivendell Preschool is licensed by the Colorado Dept. of Human Services, #1504578.

Forever Fort Collins — 7 to 12 yrs

history of focoExplore how Fort Collins remains diverse and productive through our relationship with animals, water, agriculture, transportation and waste management. We will visit the raptors at the Environmental Learning Center, learn from master naturalists about the Poudre River, farm with The Growing Project, learn about power at the CSU Energy Lab, visit the Fort Collins Bike Co-op, and make recycled art and eco-friendly cleaners. We will learn how to code, study how a computer works, and learn to create our own computer programs and apps. Whether you want to design a website, write a simulation, make digital art or music, or are an aspiring game designer, this class will start you on your way. Register here.

Animal Planet — 4.5 to 6 yrs FULL*

rainforestAre you interested in the animals that roam our planet? This class will have it all, whether it is bears, dogs, camels, peacocks, or the red panda that you call your favorite. This awesome summer enrichment class will explore different animals and their habitats. Each day the class will take a close look at a new animal and learn about where they live, what they eat, and other cool traits specific to that animal. Tour de Fort Bike Camp — 7 to 13 yrs FULL*

tour de fortWhether you’re a riding enthusiast or wanting to become one, this class is for you. We will be covering bike safety, bike maintenance, and bike trail navigation while enjoying the numerous natural (Poudre River, Lee Martinez Park, Rolland Moore Park) and recreational (BMX track, Swimming, Frisbee golf) wonders of Fort Collins. If you’ve loved these types of recreational activities for years, or if you’ve just developed an interest in any of them, you’ll have a blast in this summer school session. Participants in this class must provide their own bicycle, helmet, and bike lock. A backpack or saddlebags will be useful for lunches and water bottles. Register here.

The Adventures of Jack and Annie: A Magic Tree House Summer Camp — 4.5 to 6 yrs FULL*

magic tree houseCalling all boys and girls who hunger for adventure and knowledge! One of the Younger Kids classrooms has turned into a giant Magic Tree House and it’s whisking campers off to different places in history just like Jack and Annie.  Join us for a week of dinosaurs, ninjas, cowboys, mummies, wild animals, magic tricks, and so much more! We’ll spend lots of time doing games, activities, and crafts based on each place we’ll visit. Please note that it will be helpful if your camper is familiar with the Magic Tree House series before starting camp. Register here.

Kid’s Boot Camp — 7 to 12 yrs FULL*

Report for Duty on Monday, June 22nd! Kid’s Boot Camp will guarantee to fully engage and inspire students to take part in physical exercise in a friendly, collaborative environment. Each day your child will be introduced to a different sports-type activity that will focus on a specific skill:  speed, endurance, power, agility, balance, coordination, and mental strength. Additionally, we’ll focus on the benefits of a healthy lifestyle for a strong emotional well-being, positive outlook on life, making new friends, and learning about teamwork. This class exposes kids to lifelong fitness opportunities in our community.

Field trips include City Park Pool (swimming), Horsetooth Rock (hiking), Spring Creek Trail (running), Core Power Yoga (yoga), Fort Collins Club (weight-lifting), Poudre River Trail (biking), Cross Fit (Old Town Athletic Club), Whole Foods (Healthy Eating Tour), and Climbing Wall (Inner Strength Rock Gym). Session Four: July 6 — July 17


Fables, Folktales and Fearless Folks — 4.5 to 6 yrs FULL*

fables folktalesWe will explore exciting legends, myths and stories of adventure, and we’ll meet folk heroes and enjoy tall tales.  We’ll incorporate fun crafts and games.  Students will create their own characters and stories. We’ll learn through drama, art, cooking, reading and writing.  A trip to the park and exploration will enhance the adventure. Register here.

Walk on the Wild Side — 7 to 12 yrs FULL*

walk on the wild sideJoin us as we discover Fort Collins’ world-class natural areas, right in our own back yard: fun hikes, hands-on ecology activities, and nature science. This summer we’re teaming with Colorado State University to study our lakes and rivers, aquatic insects, see ongoing research on campus, and learn how it all connects to us! Many days will involve riding the local bus and/or hiking. As a bonus, you will get an introduction to geocaching. Let’s explore! western round upJoin us for a rootin’ tootin’ learning adventure.  We’ll enjoy literature, games, crafts, singing, dancing and role playing.  Saddle up for some math challenges and writing experiences that’ll make you kick up your heels.  We’ll make homemade ice cream, cotton candy, wood crafts and take a trip to the park.  We will also enjoy a horse drawn wagon ride.  A rodeo theme will provide the backdrop for a roundup of skills to keep students sharp for the fall. Summer Musical: “Hatshepsut, Queen of Denial” — Ages 5-12 FULL*

musical egyptIt’s early in the New Kingdom and something strange is happening in the land of the Nile. Egypt has a female pharaoh! Our show follows Hatshepsut through her two decades as pharaoh, culminating in the building of her magnificent mortuary temple at Deir el-Bahri (and the mysterious efforts after her death to remove her from Egyptian records). Students will learn the entire show during our 2 week session and will perform for parents on Thursday, July 30th. We will build set pieces, props and make costumes as well. Students are welcome to attend week one only, but they will not be assigned a role in the musical. Register here.

Rivendell Robotics Institute
Cost: $220 per one-week class
Ages 9 to 12


lego 100pxMaximum 12 students per class.  Note: if a class does not have at least 4 participants by the Friday before, the class will not be held. Each session will be taught by two qualified instructors, including Michael Espinoza and Issak Malers.

Participate in the Rivendell Robotics Institute! Spend a week building and programming a robot using the Lego® MindStorms NXT kits and one of the challenge tables from past competitions. Design your own robot to complete tasks – Each week will offer a different challenge. Award-winning coaches will guide you through the process.
