Additional Subjects

Education goes beyond the core curriculum of mathematics and literacy, and science and social studies topic work. Hands-on, experiential learning is vital. Rivendell offers environmental education, with yearly overnight trips to the mountains for 3-6th graders, a weekly musical event for the entire school called Group Sing, and opportunities for student philanthropy.

Environmental Education

Our science topic work encompasses environmental subjects, but each spring Rivendell students in 3rd through 6th grades get the opportunity to study the environment in a personal, in-depth way with a trip to Sky Ranch in Pingree Park. Kids go overnight (one night for 3rd graders, three nights for 4th graders and four nights for 5-6th graders) and study the mountain environment with Rivendell teachers and the outstanding Sky Ranch staff. Group Sing

A long-time Rivendell tradition, the entire school gets together once a week to sing and perform.  From our school song to folk songs to songs from student musicals to recorder performances, it’s a wonderful time for all, led by our music teacher and accompanied by Rivendell teachers.

Philanthropic Opportunities

Being a good citizen and helping others are also important life skills. Throughout the year, students have various opportunities to help make the world a better place.  Activities can be within the school (Recycling Fairies) or out in the community (Project Self Sufficiency, visiting with residents of assisted living facilities). Our students enjoy making a difference!
